Aeo3 HD Smart Lite is a portable software utility that retrieves hard disk drives' health, performance and operation status. This set of information is known as the hard disk drive’s Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (or S.M.A.R.T.) data.

This software can detect and retrieves information such as Internal Temperature, Power-On Hours, Read-Error Rate, Reallocated Sectors, Uncorrectable Errors and more.

Hard Drive Failures

Hard disks failure is a certainty and can be a traumatic experience. All drives will gradually degrade over time. However sudden catastrophic failure does happen in the first few months of a new hard disk.

One of the best way to prevent data lost from hard disk failure is to know the drives' conditions.

Bought a computer, but not sure if the PC or hard disk is new?

Aeo3 HD Smart Lite can also detect the age of the drive, hence indirectly gauge the age of the computer (assuming the hard disk came with the original computer).

Important

Special Note BIOS Hard Disk SMART has to be Enabled.

Special Note Windows Administrative Privileges is required.

Special Note This is a Read-only application. It does NOT write to the Hard Disk.

Special Note This is NOT a data recovery software. It does NOT rescue accidentally deleted data.

    GOOD TO STORE IMPORTANT FILES

OK OK – Good Health.

    STORE LESS IMPORTANT/NON-CRITICAL FILES

Minor Issue(s) MINOR ISSUE(S) – Detected minor problems but most likely not life threatening.

Sometimes running extensive hard drive defragmentation or virus scan can cause a spike in anomalies.

Cautious CAUTIOUS – A combination of factors indicates the hard disk may need to be monitored more regularly.

Aging AGING – The hard disk is gradually experiencing more irregularities, but most likely not serious.

    RECOMMEND REPLACING HARD DISK

Data lost generally refers to limited damages such as corrupted file(s) due to bad sector(s).

Sudden failure refers to the catastrophic hard disk failure where by the stored data is completely lost, but may still be recovered.

Degrading DEGRADING – More and more issues are detected. Data lost is a possibility.

Hi-Risk RISKY – The hard disk has a rising possibility of sudden failure and data lost.

Hi-Risk HI-RISK – The hard disk is experiencing increasing failure rates on multiple fronts. High possibility of sudden failure and data lost.

Hi-Risk SERIOUS – Combination of factors indicate this hard disk is facing likelihood of failure in near future. Try not to stress the hard disk at this stage.

Hi-Risk DANGER – The hard disk is dangerously near end-of-life. Data lost may have already occurred.

Critical CRITICAL – Recommend replacing hard disk. Multiple failures detected. Data lost may have occurred.

Critical DEATHBED – Recommend immediately replacing hard disk. Imminent Hard Disk Failure.

About Read/Scan Error Rate (Lower is Better)

Special Note Seagate Hard Disks log "Raw" Read Error Rate - before any internal Error-Correcting Code (ECC) has been implemented. This is a different approach when compared to other companies.
Special Note Users with Seagate Hard Disks should cross reference "Read Error Rate" with "Hardware ECC Recovered".
Special Note Manufacturers like Western Digital logs errors after ECC has been applied - giving you actual errors that cannot be corrected by the hard disk. Therefore on Western Digital hard disks, "Read Error Rate" is an indicator of REAL errors.
Why It Was Created Back to Top

Aeo3 HD Smart Lite was designed to be simple and easy. I developed this tool primarily for myself. A few computer technicians have since been using this program in their department and company as part of their computer maintenance routine.

The followings are the primary objectives for Aeo3 HD Smart Lite.

Arrow Quick access of Hard Disk Drive's complete S.M.A.R.T. Data
Arrow Check Drive's Temperature, maintains in a healthy zone to avoid Bad Sector occurrence
Arrow Allow detection of drive errors (Read Error Rate) and bad sectors (Reallocated Sector Count)
Arrow Check the Drive's Operational Hours and swap out those that exceed 26280 hours (or 3 years)
Arrow Buying a new drive but not sure it's genuinely new? Check the drives Power-On Hours.
